About me
I'm Angelika Gad (Cebula), a visual artist who works with various media in my practice. Having grown up in the countryside, I feel a deep connection to it and am eager to express it in my work, though I am still searching for my own unique approach to visual storytelling. I hold a degree from the Faculty of Art at the Pedagogical University in Krakow and in journalism from the Jagiellonian University. Since 2021, I have been part of the TARTA art collective, which I co-founded.
My artistic focus is on social themes, and I’m particularly drawn to long-term documentary projects. In 2020, I had the opportunity to win the Debuts mentoring program (Picture Doc), where, under the mentorship of Agata Grzybowska, I created the project Zaraz wrócisz [You Will Be Back Soon]. In this project, I used photography, collage, animation, and video to explore the loss I experienced after my father’s death. That same year, as part of the ‘Social Photography between Journalism and Art’ course at the Faculty of Art (Pedagogical University), and under the mentorship of Michał Łuczak, I edited and published a photobook titled Zaraz wrócisz.
Between 2021 and 2023, I participated in an artistic and research program organized by vnLab, where, together with the TARTA collective, we created an interactive documentary titled Zarastanie [Overgrowth], which focuses on the displacement of villages due to a sulfur mine. In 2023, once again in collaboration with the TARTA collective, I opened an exhibition on this subject as part of the ‘Project Room’ program.
